Change & Transition

Transition doesn’t have to be this way. What if we also honored the fact that change is natural? This natural process of change is shown through nature via seasons, through life via birth, growth and aging… Every second, everything around you is changing: blooms emerge, winds shift, water flows, snow falls then melts, and thoughts come and go. The question is: If change is inevitable, what do you need to shed in order to grow? What can you do to make the process more graceful, more flowing, and not so ‘messy’? How can you participate with intention, accept the flow, and honor it?

Bathing with the Moon's Beauty

There is such energetic intensity around the Full Moon. Think about it… our bodies are approximately 60% water—the amount fluctuates as we grow and change… Given that the moon is our closet cosmic neighbor, and its gravitational pull governs the tides, it’s only natural that our human bodies feel the pulse and swelling of this glorious lunar pull. What moves the oceans, also moves you.

During this time it’s easy to be carried away by the current of Collective Emotion, for we are all affected by the Full Moon on a cellular level. You can feel this energy all around, washing all over you and through you. This is why Full Moon Rituals are so helpful. They quiet the chaos and calm the currents around you. They center, nurture, and create a sacred space essential for navigating this powerfully energetic time. Sacred spaces help you connect and tune-in to your own power. Full Moon Rituals help guide and honor your connection to the Moon and strengthen your connection within.

The energy of the Full Moon is legendary. Knowing that we are continuously manifesting in our daily lives, naturally this ability is at its peak during a Full Moon. And just as the Moon is full to capacity, so are we... so it’s an ideal time to release, discern, and to allow all that no longer serves us to flow freely away with the tides. In honor of the Moon, and with Love and Light I offer this Full Moon Ritual to you…

Simple Ritual to Release & Manifest During the Full New Moon

Before you begin diving into this recipe, know that this experience is highly customizable. Each soul will have slightly different needs, and each person will have slightly different items on hand. So, do not get caught up in perfecting the process or details. There is no wrong way to do this, and modifying it will not make it any less effective. The foundation of this ritual is your intent.

Gather and Place Items Representing the Four Elements & Directions

Earth & North: Crystals:

If you don't have crystals on hand, you can use any plant, or flower. Anything from the Earth will do.

Water & South:

For this Ritual I personally prefer to create my sacred space in the bath, and allow my bathwater to represent the Water element. You can use water in a bowl, or container.

Fire & West: Candles

Personally I like to use dark candles, preferably black, for black absorbs and releases energy. You need a single, dark candle; it will be placed in the center. You can choose candles of any color that speaks to you. It may be helpful to use the colors associated with the Chakras as your guide. The number of candles can be linked to how much you want to release or you can even use one to represent each of the four directions. Separately, you will need a white candle: used at the end of this ritual.

Air & East: A Feather

This is your ritual; feel free to use a feather wand, bells or chimes. If you have chosen to use candles for the four directions, start lighting your candles from this direction and move clockwise till you have the four directions ignited.

You will also need:

  1. A chalice containing the beverage of your choosing, symbolizing a vessel to hold your dreams
  2. Your favorite essential oils
  3. Some form of simple nourishment—this represents your dedication to nourishing your intentions.
  4. Salt
  5. Writing materials

Set Up Your Sacred Space

Enter into your chosen sacred space and place your four elements as close to the four directions as possible.

Place your dark (or colored) candle, symbolizing your highest intention, in the middle. This center candle is where you will focus the energy of your prayers and meditations.

In a clockwise fashion, light any additional candles starting in the East and moving clockwise towards the South, West, then North. *Do not light your white candle, for it will be needed later.

Encircle your sacred space with a ring of salt. Here, you can even use a chunk of salt, if granulated salt isn't your thing. Should you choose a salt chunk, or salt lamp, place that item where you ENTER your circle. Take your left index finger and trace in a clockwise motion the outline of a sacred circle to enclose your ritual.

Place your journal inside the circle near you.

If you’ve chosen to include the bath ritual, place drops of your favorite essential oils into the bathwater. If you have not, simply place a drop of your essential oil on your third eye.

Now it is time for your Invocation. This is when you invite your highest connection to the Divine to be present in your space. I like to work with and feel connected to Angels, and use the following Invocation as I call them in to assist me: “I ask for the highest good to be present with me, to guide me, to help me clarify my path forward with the deepest intention of my heart. Guide and infuse your wisdom upon me, to create space for the grace and my experience on the planet. May my journey be a healing force for all sentient beings…” I also love to work with St. Germain’s Violet Flame, so that too can be an Invocation you send out during this time of transmutation. Because, what could be more transmutive than a Full Moon?

Then I will invite in and acknowledge the energy of the 4 elements present:

“Thank to to the element Water, that moves thru me and my emotions that guide me thru my days and my years. Thank you to the Air, that keeps my thoughts and words clear and insightful. Thank you to the Earth, that holds me and bestows me with steadiness. And thank you to the Fire that ignites my spirit, my creativity and my passions.”

During your Invocation, there are no rules, no wrong ways to connect with your Divine. Whatever words feel right for you are perfect—just speak from your heart! As you sit and submerge in your meditation, allow whatever visions and messages you receive to flow in, around and through you. Listen as your Intuition speaks. Ask for what you need, and release that what no longer serves you.

After meditation, you may want to write down what insights you gained, inspirations ignited and what you’re releasing. Also take time to thank the universe for the messages you received, the lessons you’ve learned, and the gratitude you have for both. Like the energy of the Full Moon, this ritual helps you connect to and access your intuitive gifts. It feels so good to claim your inner domain, honor your power, feel it’s guidance, and celebrate it’s empowering impact.

When you feel your time in meditation and Full Moon Ritual ceremony is complete, extinguish your candles in a counterclockwise fashion. It is THEN that you light your white candle to honor The Divine and the highest purest energy that it so lovingly offers. Take a sip from your chalice and a bite of the nourishment you’ve chosen. With one hand reaching for the stars and one hand reaching toward the earth, give gratitude and love as you complete your Full Moon Ritual.

May your steps be certain, accompanied by angels, and blessed by the highest vibration.

In Love and Light,

Why Tarot?

Why is tarot relevant today? In our fast moving virtual world, one may wonder “Why should I study tarot, when I can download an app that tells me what the card means?” This is not a slam to apps, they're fun! Yet an app is not the same as holding a sacred tool like tarot in the palm of your hand and (more importantly) in the depths of your heart.

Empower Your Vision

Vision Boards are a fun, energizing and magnetic way to connect your intention and your vision to your daily life. And they are always a popular way to anchor and energize your New Year Vision. Unlike speaking and writing, which use our conscious intellect to express desires and choices, vision boards engage both our conscious and unconscious minds, this amplifies their power and impact on our decisions and actions.

Clearing Your Space: Smudging

What You Will Need:

You will need to acquire a couple of smudge sticks. These are dried herbs tied to together. You can use sage, lavender, sweet grass, lemon grass, etc. These sticks are inexpensive, for being such a powerful and helpful tool, and usually available at any “new age-y” kind of store, crystal shop or bookstore. You can purchase one online here

You’ll need a candle or a good source of flame in case the smudge stick goes out while you’re working, which new smudge sticks sometimes do. When you get your stick, you’ll want to roll it between the palms of your hands a couple of times in order to loosen the stick a bit. If they are tied too tightly they won’t stay lit. of course, if they’re too loose, then they burn too quickly, so don't crush them between your palms when you roll them.

You will also need something that you can use to fan the smoke of the smudge stick. I like to use a sacred feather tool, but a hand fan or strong, thick paper or even the back of a paper tablet will do. If you are using a paper product, its always nice to decorate it or infuse it with your energy,  desires or a picture.

I also suggest you have a container to carry under the smudge stick while you’re using it, as it will drop a bit of charred stick as you go along. I like to use a large alabaster shell that is sacred to me, like this one - but any item you are comfortable with (and that is noncombustible) will do. I prefer the shell as a symbol of water, to round out the elemental aspect: Fire from the burning smudge stick, the air from the fanning and the earth from the herbs.

Preparing for Smudging:

I like to start at the “bottom” of the house and work my way up to the top level.

So starting at the lowest level of the space, sit down on the floor, light your candle and take three deep breaths, allowing your thoughts to clear and your inner, energetic body to expand more with each breath. Say a prayer for protection - whatever you feel comfortable with, that allows you to align to the Divine and prevents anything from coming between that alignment. If you are familiar with your personal protector or warrior guide, now would be a good time to call that Spirit in, if you aren't start learning more here. If none of this sounds like something you are familiar or comfortable with, then simply call in Arch Angel Michael, which is never a bad move.

Or you can use my favorite prayer for protection:

I bring down a light of Divine love and protection and I draw a circle around me and my bodies.

Into the circle I place:

The white light of peace

The blue light of healing and

The clear, red light of energy.

I direct that nothing an no on shall come between me and my circle. And so it is. Amen.

Getting Started:

Light your smudge stick from your candle. Let it burn about 30 seconds and then gently blow the flame out, like you would blow out a stick of incense, leaving a trail of smoke continuing to float up from the smudge stick. Begin to “trace” the seams of each room with that trail of smoke. That means the floor to wall seam, the wall to wall seam, the wall to ceiling seam and the last wall to wall seam. As you won't be able to actually reach each seam (i.e. The ceiling to wall) you use the feather tool to send the smoke up to that seam, and I like to use the fanning tool throughout the whole process for each seam.

In addition to the seams of each room, you will also smudge the seam of windows, doorways (of rooms and closets) book shelves and mirrors. By waiving your smudge stick or with the fan, make the infinity sign on each stair of a staircase, over mirrors and over drains (sink, toilettes, showers, bathtubs, washing machines, dishwasher) the same way. This symbol is particularly helpful in corners or under furniture, or any other place energy feels “stuck”. If you know reiki, the first symbol is effect here.

After you complete each room, open a window or door opening to the outside and say the following phrase with authority and ownership, “Anything unaligned to my highest good, leave now!”. Wait a minute or so, or until you feel the energy has cleared and then close the window or door and move on to the next room or hallway.

When you complete every room, closet, hallway, and staircase, your work is completed. Enjoy the freshness and lightness of your newly cleansed space. Its always nice to seal the process with a prayer of gratitude for the spirits who assisted you and then release them from this assignment. If you are feeling as though you need to amplify your protection, you can always place a small trail of salt around the house or around the property. I also like to leave my smudging tools outside the front door as a symbol to any spirits even thinking about getting back in, but thats more of giggle between the spooks and me!

Happy Smudging!

Choosing Love in the Face of Fear

While none of us can predict times of turmoil and distress, days like today remind us how precious life is, and they also ignite great fear and uncertainty. What if the suicide bomber had been successful? What if I or my loved ones were there? Who would do such a thing? And simply, Why?

Light cannot exist without darkness. What we witnessed in New York City today is a reminder that darkness exists. When moments that are out of our control suddenly occur, fear, anger, sadness and grief are the emotions we process. It is important to honor your sadness and grief in a safe space. It is also important to be mindful of the energy fear and anger possess. We cannot allow fear or anger to be the light that steers our vessel, for both destroy the person they command. Giving power to either gives the darkness more strength, which is exactly what it wants and needs to survive.

We should never become numb to tragedy, nor use tragedy to create fear and panic in our hearts. In fact it is on days such as these, it is essential to hold onto the light. Remember that people are inherently good. That Love and the human heart are the strongest energy sources in the universe. Focus your attention and devotion to serving and loving all beings; be the exact opposite of those who live in fear and therefore seek to harm others. The greatest act of courage is to resist slipping into the energy of fear, intolerance and separation.

When you make someone ‘the other’ you separate our connective humanity, and it’s a short slide to fostering hatred. Just like the leaves of a single tree, we are all connected. Leaves do not need to fight or compete with each other in order for the tree to thrive. And so it is with us.

In this time of darkness and vulnerability, you have to choose to shine from within. Hold the people and places affected both today and everyday around the world in the light of your love, in the light of your heart.

Living in Harmony with Astrology

Wow—we have a busy month in store for us cosmically: Mercury has gone retro, the Gemini full moon was a Supermoon, and Neptune comes out to dance and play amidst both. As if December wasn’t full of enough activity already…
